When you buy your car insurance policy, there will be requirements you need to stick to in order to keep your policy valid. There will be a lot of paperwork flying about but you need to make sure you keep everything organised so do not just throw the letters away or bury them underneath the mountainous pile of paperwork you have accumulated over the years. You may just need it if you need to make a claim.
The first thing to ensure you do is have an MOT. This is the test your car undertakes to make sure it is in fully working order, the MOT tests everything from lights to tyres to steering to seatbelts and brakes. The test costs around £27-£60 depending on the car and is the same wherever you have it done and your local garage will normally offer the service. Not having an MOT will affect your car insurance and will leave you in hot water with your insurer and police if caught without it.
If you are caught speeding you will receive a fine and 3 points on your license. If you are caught twice and you receive 6 points, this will make it hard to find cheap car insurance as having 6 points on your license can result in a 25% increase on your premium. You need to make sure you fully understand your policy and what you need to have to ensure your policy remains valid.
You are likely to have a lot of paperwork about, and if like so many other people you find it hard to organise it all, now would be a good time to start because if you were unfortunate enough to have an accident and you had a to make a claim you will need all your details. All paperwork about your license, insurance, MOT and road tax need to be kept safe in case you need them.Whether you are insuring a brand new car or looking for something slightly different like classic car insurance, make sure you shop online to find the best deals around by comparing the leading insurers.
